We help projects take shape, whatever shape they need.

Inkfish is a creative partner for artists, organizations, and people doing thoughtful work. We help bridge the space between vision and realization — bringing together brand design, web design, print, media production, and the practical know-how to make the pieces work together.

Logos & Branding

Marks, typography, color, language, and visual systems for projects that need to be recognized, remembered, and used in the real world.

Websites & Interactive

Fast, art-directed websites with enough structure to last — bespoke artist websites, cultural and nonprofit sites, clean landing pages, and strange interactive ideas that still load quickly and make sense.

Production & Media

Photo, video, audio, and live production for stories that need more than a phone clip — from shaping the setup to capturing the moment and turning it into usable material.

Spaces & Installations

Design that leaves the screen and enters the room — wayfinding, displays, gift shops, interpretive moments, spatial graphics, and visual systems for physical places.

Print & Publication

Printed things with a spine, a fold, a margin, and a reason to exist. Reports, books, posters, mailers, catalogs, and collateral made to be held onto.

Unusual Projects

The odd commissions are usually the best ones. If the brief involves three disciplines, no obvious category, and a slightly unreasonable amount of care, it probably belongs here.

Questions

Getting to know us

Have a tenth question? Ask it directly.

01What does Inkfish do?

Inkfish helps thoughtful projects take shape. We bring together head, hand, and heart: the strategy to understand the work, the skill to make it real, and the care to make the pieces feel connected. We are especially useful when the project needs both imagination and follow-through.

02Who do you work with?

Inkfish works with people and organizations who need creative help that is thoughtful, flexible, and hands-on. That includes artists, nonprofits, small businesses, cultural organizations, historic sites, public projects, and anyone trying to make something meaningful and unique.

03What kinds of projects are a good fit?

Inkfish engages with projects that need more than a single deliverable. We can help with early planning, creative direction, grant strategy, project development, design, production, and launch — or step in near the end to help finish things well. We bring flexibility, resourcefulness, and personalized creative problem-solving to artists, nonprofits, cultural organizations, and public-facing projects that need thoughtful support from idea to production.

04Can you help if I do not know where to start?

Absolutely. Early-stage projects are a natural fit for Inkfish. We can help define the project, sort the possibilities, identify what needs to be made, and turn a rough idea into a plan with shape, direction, and momentum. Contact us at the form below to start the conversation.

05Can you help if I already know exactly what I need?

Yes! We routinely work on projects at all stages, and collaboration is central to how we work. If you already have a clear direction, Inkfish can help carry it forward — tailoring our work to your specific style and needs, building the website, preparing files, coordinating with production partners, designing the final pieces, and helping the project reach the finish line.

06Do you design websites?

Yes. Inkfish designs and builds websites for artists, nonprofits, small businesses, cultural organizations, historic sites, and creative projects — including bespoke artist websites. We create sites that are visually dynamic, useful, easy to understand, and built around the actual needs of the project.

07What makes Inkfish different?

Inkfish is a multidisciplinary design studio, first and foremost — like the octopus, we have many arms: design, copy editing, photography, media production, and the practical skills to carry a project across disciplines. We work with people, not just for them. We listen closely, respond well to challenges, and adapt to the specific needs of each project. No two projects look the same, because no two clients need the exact same approach. Our partners call us when they need original work tailored to their specific needs.

08Where is Inkfish based?

Inkfish has studio locations in Mason City, Iowa and Albert Lea, Minnesota, serving clients across north Iowa, southern Minnesota, Minneapolis, and beyond. Both of our studios are located in historic buildings we have helped reimagine and renovate: the former YWCA building in Mason City and the Bessesen Building in downtown Albert Lea.

09What does Inkfish mean?

Cephalopods are strange little geniuses: tool users, shapeshifters, escape artists, camouflage masters, and natural ink-makers. The octopus may be one of the most intelligent creatures on the planet — resourceful, responsive, and constantly adapting to its environment. Inkfish draws its name from that metaphor: creative work that can evolve, respond, blend in, stand out, and find the right form to thrive.
